What are the Seven Dwarfs Names?

Let’s take a closer look at these 7 dwarfs.

7 Dwarfs Names – Who Are The Dwarfs?

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a Disney movie released in 1937.

However, before Walt Disney brought it to the big screen, Snow White emerged as part of the Grimm’s Brothers Fairytales back in 1812.

At that point, the seven dwarfs names didn’t exist. They remained nameless until their Broadway debut a hundred years later. Even then, though, the names of the seven dwarfs were not as we know now in this classic movie.

Walt went through many iterations of the 7 dwarfs names before finally settling on the ones we know and love today.

Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs Movie Plot

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a Brothers Grimm classic fairytale about a princess and her evil queen stepmother who wants to get rid of her (really, why are stepmothers given such a bad rap with Disney? I’m a stepmother, too!).

Snow White finds a cute cottage in the woods that she falls asleep in only to be awoken by seven dwarfs! The dwarfs offer to let her live with them, but she unfortunately eats a poisoned apple given to her by the Evil Witch (her stepmother).

As with all Disney movies, the happy ending concludes with a prince finding the princess (in a glass-enclosed coffin) and kissing her. This, evidently, is true love’s kiss and they live happily ever after!

Okay, let’s find out more about who those beloved characters, the Seven Dwarfs, are!

Seven Dwarfs Names and Fun Facts

1. Doc

Long known to be the leader of the dwarfs, Doc is the father figure.

Doc has a little bit of a stuttering issue, especially when he doesn’t know what to say.

He does sing a solo in “Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum (The Dwarfs’ Washing Song)” and often breaks out into song during other musical numbers.

The most industrious of the dwarfs—he is constantly fixing ditches, constructing ladders and building cabinets for Snow White’s cottage, Doc definitely likes to get things done.

Doc is recognized by his white hair and beard wearing wire-rimmed spectacles (in fact, the only dwarf who wears glasses).

Ok, doesn’t he remind you of Santa Claus?

He wears red coveralls and heavy shoes, as well as a yellow cap and brown pants.

Moreover, Doc’s personality reflects Walt Disney’s—he is the most gentlemanly and diplomatic of the dwarfs, but he can also be cantankerous.

One thing Sleepy dwarf always like to do is sleep! Sleepy is known for his many attempts to catch some shut-eye, even if it’s not the best time.

He has sleepy eyes that are always half-closed, and his mouth barely moves when he speaks—he is only heard yawning or snoring.

He wears a brown shirt and orange pants.

Visible when he lies down for a nap or gets up from his chair, his stomach is always seen protruding out of the hem of his pants.

3. Dopey

Dopey dwarf is the favorite of Snow White even though he doesn’t speak. He is known for his dim-wittedness, and he always manages to wreak havoc without even realizing it.

Dopey’s appearance resembles that of a child (in fact, he is the youngest dwarf) — he has rosy cheeks and is clad in blue trousers with a yellow shirt and gray hat.

Consequently, he can be very charming at times. Such as the time he kept circling to get a goodbye kiss from Snow White.

Dopey is the only dwarf not to have a beard.

Pinto Colvig provided Dopey’s voice, a noted vaudeville and motion-picture buff, who had donePete in Disney’s “Pinocchio” and would later give voice toWendy in “Peter Pan”.

4. Grumpy

Grumpy is known for his constant complaints. He hates everything from morning to night.

It is rare to see him without a frown on his face and is usually very pessimistic.

Grumpy often rejects Dopey’s ideas, and his comments are always full of sarcasm.

One of the catchphrases of the movie comes from Grumpy. His favorite phrase is “I don’t feel like it!”, which is said in a deep growling manner that has become one of the most famous catchphrases in cinema history.

Grumpy wears a red tunic, brown trousers and a brown hat. He usually is seen carrying an ax.

5. Happy

Happy dwarf is the chubbiest of all the dwarfs. He is a jolly person who is always out to have a good time. Happy is known for his incredible appetite, which matches his round figure.

He’s also very enthusiastic but has a short attention span, and this leads him into a constant misadventure.

Happy wears a yellow shirt with a red vest, blue trousers and sports an orange hat.

6. Bashful

Bashful dwarf had a crush on Snow White and is the most romantic of all the dwarfs. He is easily the most shy of all seven dwarfs, and he struggles to express himself due to his overwhelming shyness.

Although Bashful has a soft spot for Snow White, he never summons up enough courage to tell her how he feels. He only becomes open when he’s alone with his fellow dwarfs.

Bashful wears a gold shirt and red pants with a green hat.

7. Sneezy

Sneezy dwarf is known for his snoring, stuffy nose and powerful sneezes that they can move objects and people across the room. He often gives warnings when a sneeze is about to attack (from his hay fever) and the other dwarfs try and control his sneezing by holding his nose.

This was the last Dwarfs name that Walt Disney had decided upon and chose to use a physical attribute instead of a personality trait when naming him.

Sneezy wears a brown shirt with red pants and a gold hat.

Where to see the 7 Dwarfs at Disneyland

Snow White’s Enchanted Wish opened in April of 2021 in Disneyland as a much-improved version of Snow White’s Scary Adventures. The latter ride was part of the original Disneyland landscape that opened in 1955.

Although it was never one of the fastest rides at Disneyland, it was always known for its dark and scary scenes with children coming off of the ride crying and in tears.

Therefore, Disney revamped the scenery to make it brighter and more cheerful, much like the Mine Train at Disney World.
